Gandhi Jayanti celebrated in London

On October 2, a function was held at Tavistock Square, London, to commemorate the 141st birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. As in past years, the event was organised by the High Commission of India in cooperation with the India League. India’s External Affairs Minister, S.M. Krishna, who was the Chief Guest, paid floral tributes to the Mahatma along with High Commissioner of India to Britain, Nalin Surie, Mayor of Camden Councillor Jonathan Simpson, Chairman of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Maneck Dalal, India League Secretary Manab Mazumdar, and Overseas Indian Congress President D.L. Kalhan, among others. Paying rich tributes to the Father of the Nation, Krishna said that the Mahatma was one of the greatest human beings who lived and walked on this planet. “He is remembered not only in India but also all over the world because he unleashed a powerful reformation that checkmated colonialism and exploitation from its roots. “He was a leader who led millions of people, not only in India but also all over.
